7 questions to ask before choosing a solar EPC partner

5 October 2026 · Altura Energy

A solar plant should generate for 25 years or more. The EPC company you choose decides how well it does that. Before signing, ask every bidder these seven questions.

1. How did you size the system?

A good proposal is based on your actual electricity bills, load profile and site – not just the area available. Ask to see the energy yield estimate and the assumptions behind it.

2. Which modules, inverters and structures are you quoting?

Make sure the proposal names the manufacturers and models. Tier-1 modules and reputable inverters cost a little more but protect generation and warranty claims for decades.

3. Who does the engineering?

In-house engineering means the people who designed the plant are accountable for how it performs. Ask for single-line diagrams and layout drawings with the proposal.

4. What projects have you executed – and can we see one?

Ask for references of similar size and type. Visiting a running plant tells you more than any brochure.

5. How do you manage safety and quality on site?

Look for documented quality checks at each stage, PPE enforcement and safety training for every worker.

6. Who handles approvals and grid connection?

DISCOM approvals, inspections and metering can delay a project by months if they are not managed well. The EPC partner should own this process.

7. What happens after commissioning?

Ask what is handed over (drawings, test reports, warranties, monitoring access) and what O&M support is offered. A partner who will maintain the plant has every reason to build it right.
