Frequently asked questions

Straight answers to the questions business owners and plant heads ask us most.

What does a turnkey solar EPC project include?

Everything from start to finish: site assessment and design (engineering), sourcing modules and components (procurement), civil and electrical works (construction), and testing, grid connection and handover (commissioning). With Altura you have one partner responsible for the whole plant – and we can maintain it afterwards.

What is the difference between Captive, RESCO and IPP?

In the Captive model you invest in the plant and use the power yourself, which gives the highest long-term savings. In the RESCO model a developer invests and owns the plant on your site, and you pay only for the power you use at a tariff lower than the grid – so there is no upfront investment. An IPP (Independent Power Producer) builds a plant to sell power to DISCOMs or other buyers. See our business models page for a side-by-side comparison.

Can we go solar with zero investment?

Yes. Under the RESCO model the plant is funded and owned by a developer, and you sign a long-term agreement to buy the power at an agreed tariff. We help you evaluate whether RESCO or Captive gives better value for your site.

How much space is needed?

As a rough guide, rooftop solar needs about 80–100 sq ft of shadow-free area per kW, and ground-mounted plants need roughly 3.5–5 acres per MW depending on the design. We confirm the exact capacity after a site survey.

How long does a project take?

It depends on size and approvals. A commercial rooftop system is typically installed within a few weeks once material is on site, while MW-scale ground-mounted plants take a few months including civil works and grid connection. We share a detailed schedule with every proposal.

Do you handle approvals and grid connection?

Yes. We prepare the technical documentation and coordinate with the DISCOM, electrical inspectorate and state nodal agency for approvals, metering and grid synchronisation.

Which modules and inverters do you use?

We use Tier-1 solar modules and quality inverters and balance-of-system components from established manufacturers. The final brands are selected for each project based on the design, availability and your preferences.

What does your O&M contract cover?

Preventive and corrective maintenance, module cleaning, remote monitoring, performance reporting and diagnostics. We offer comprehensive contracts (manpower, spares and consumables included) and non-comprehensive contracts (manpower and services, spares billed as used).

Do you take O&M for plants built by other companies?

Yes. We start with a health check of the plant, fix any existing issues and then maintain it under a regular O&M contract.

What payback can an industrial plant expect?

Payback depends on your tariff, consumption, site and the model you choose. For many commercial and industrial users in India, a captive solar plant pays for itself in roughly 3–5 years and keeps generating for 25 years or more. Try our solar calculator for an indicative estimate.

Where do you work?

We are based in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, and execute and maintain solar projects across India.
